Surface active detergents catalyzes have been used for the penetration of stain too hard to stain bacilli. As a result it makes for rapid-AFB™ ideal screening tool for mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Principle:

• Pararosaniline in presence of phenol and detergent stains acid fast bacilli (AFB)

• It retains its red-colored dye upon decolorization with 10% acetic acid during counter-stain with malachite green

• All background gets bluish-green color except acid fast bacilli, which remain deep to light red colored
